Private Universität Witten/Herdecke GmbH
Witten, Germany

University description (as per official university website)

The University of Witten / Herdecke offers new forms of teaching and studies, new fields and approaches in research, and also new concepts in organizing an academic institution of higher education.

Basic postulate: "Freedom of education!"
Freedom of education was the ideal at the beginning of UWF. The claim was to create conditions where students unfold their full potential without constraints. This vision was the starting-point for a university free from state control in the 1970es. The UWF was and still is the only private university in Germany with full university status.

Excellent student training
The excellent student-teacher ratio permits continuous subject-related and therefore personal dialogue as a precondition for successful university education. Close cooperation with numerous commercial enterprises with international connections Ensures practice orientation in teaching.

No degree course without "Fundamental Studies, the humanities and arts core curriculum
Once per week students of all faculties reach beyond their own disciplines and attend lectures and classes of Fundamental Studies, the humanities and arts core curriculum, where they address topics from philosophy, aesthetics, arts or ethics, in theory and / or practice. Our university leaves you room to organize your studies on a highly individual basis. And the responsibility is also yours. The obligation to define and pursue your personal aims constitutes the essential challenge during your time at Witten / Herdecke.
