The Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg was founded in 1993 and is one of the youngest universities in Germany. Its roots lie in the three former institutions: Technical University, College of Education and the Medical School.
With 9 faculties and nearly 13 800 students its importance is growing increasingly as a university center for teaching and research as well as the state capital of Magdeburg, which is developing into a city of industry, science and culture.
