The TUHH is one of the youngest and most successful universities in Germany. The plans for a technical university in Süderelbe area date back to the '20s. 50 years later, in 1978, was the TUHH - the objective is to promote structural change in the region - a reality.
Between 1982 and 2005 fit in Hamburg's south, a campus university, whose modern buildings into the terrain. The campus with its greenery and trees invites you to linger. Gradually, the TUHH their terrain to the edge of the Schwarzenberg extended to the north.
In 1980, the research operations began, 1982/83 lecturing followed. Today about 100 professors and 1,150 employees (including 500 scientists, including externally funded researchers) at the TUHH. With around 5,000 students opened up an excellent student ratio. On campus, multifaceted environment, social and intellectual exchange. The mood is easily described: young, innovative, unconventional, original and creative - an ideal atmosphere for the development of new ideas in engineering.
The founding principles of the TUHH are unique in Germany: research priority, interdisciplinarity, innovation, regionality and internationality are mandatory basis for our actions. The focus of research, teaching and technology transfer is the leitmotif technique for people to develop.
The TUHH is a competitive, entrepreneurial university with high performance and quality. It is a commitment to the principles of Humboldt's internationally oriented university with regional connectivity and contributing to the development of technical and scientific expertise of the society by striving in their research fields of national and international excellence and engineering junior forms with modern teaching and learning methods
The TUHH is an international university campus
Studying abroad is to open up opportunities. Along with the trend towards globalization of markets, there are also long been a global education market. Therefore allows the TUHH all interested students to study in partner universities abroad and provides for this purpose to help others with extensive additional scholarships available. Engineers with international experience in demand than ever. The TUHH therefore has a broad network of cooperation with world-class partner institutions in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Partner universities (examples):
Chalmers Tekniska Högskola, Sweden Swinburne University of Technology, Australia
Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India Tongji University, Shanghai, PRC
Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Mexico Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona / Spain

University of Manchester, UK
With the introduction of international courses the TUHH foreign and German students has made the offer to combine the advantages of the German engineering education with the benefits of internationally compatible degrees. Degrees, which are also attended by German students mediate long-lasting contacts: between cultures, especially between people. One in four students at the TUHH is a foreigner or foreigners, this high proportion of students and visiting scientists and researchers from all over the campus with the flair of internationalism.
Guests of the TUHH and an international study program is a commitment, because education knows no boundaries. The TUHH is understood as a global player in the education market.
As part of the Erasmus program exchanges with universities have been more than 50 European established. The TUHH is, for example, a member of CESAER (Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research) and the ECIU (European Consortium of Innovative Universities).
