The main objective of the doctrine of the Merz Academy is to prepare students of design to work as an independent media authors who are aware of the aesthetic, cultural and scientific contexts of their work consciously and therefore feel obligated to a critical confrontation.
A society whose reality is increasingly influenced by the media calls, guidance and control of designers, they also expect practical skills, specific targeted messages and to communicate appropriately and to use technological potential efficiently and effectively and to develop. The analysis of current social processes and the reflection of possible developments is the basis for socially responsible behavior of future media designers inside and therefore has long been an integral part of studies at the founded in 1918, officially recognized College of Design.
To prepare for such a form of artistic and creative authorship to be integrated at the Merz Akademie design, technological and scientific skills, taught to say in a concerted process. Media, technology, content and design are not as single elements side by side or one after the other in the curriculum, but are taught together by complex projects and other forms of instruction. This is not about a realistic imitation of the current market or agency everyday life and not about the question of the immediate usefulness or feasibility of a project. Rather, understand the Merz Academy, the university as a necessary artistic freedom - a kind of thinking and experimental laboratory, the new insights and ideas regarding the social, cultural and economic developments
Particularly significant is this our field theory and science, we try to empower the students to use theory as a tool and technology to question a scientific theory as critical. At the Merz Akademie comes before the other one without it.
"Film and Video", "Interface Design" and "visual communication" are the study of the seven-semester degree program in design, art and media, "which focuses on the design / conceptual use of new media technologies in the cultural, social and scientific fields.
Students have an extensive technical equipment is available that the areas of photography, printing, computer labs, sound editing, video editing up to the "3-D-blue-screen studio" cover-to-date. With projects, exhibitions, conferences and publications of merz & solitude, the Merz Academy regularly turns to the public and made more so with the fields of student cultural life.
