The courses offered by the Faculty of Fine Arts in HBKsaar includes the areas of painting, sculpture and sculpture and mixed media, audio-visual art, performance and digital media.

The Department of Design aspects of communications, media and product design are taught.
In addition to the HBKsaar offered in cooperation with the University of the Saarland, the arts education teacher training courses.
For winter 2007/08, the interdisciplinary program in Media Art & Design, of the ways to qualify from the two departments combines synergistically introduced.

All students complete the first two semesters of study a common basis in which they learn the basics of creating the basis of changing topics. From the second semester, the students are based in the various fields of fine art and design.

Modular Courses

Since winter 2009/2010 the study conducted at the HBKsaar fully modular system. The student has the opportunity to seek either a bachelor's or graduate degree. For admission at the HBKsaar the desired degree is indicated.
The study of each can be added for the winter. The regular time in a bachelor's degree is 8 semesters in a diploma course 9 semester and includes the undergraduate (four semesters) and the Advanced Course.

As the first professional degree in a Bachelor Degree HBKsaar gives the degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts, a diploma course in the degree diploma. The following can be obtained in a master's degree, the degree of Master of Fine Arts.
The art education programs are completed by the First State Examination.

Educational concept

The educational approach is project HBKsaar, that is, it is based on the principle of merging of different disciplines and skills. So permanent new international teaching and study projects to be developed. The positing of flexibility training structure therefore provides a degree of permeability between the individual studies.

In addition to networking of courses with academic and cultural institutions - including the University of the Saarland, the University of Music and the Saarland State Theatre, City Gallery Saarbrücken or with neighboring universities in France - the HBKsaar sees the discussion of specific tasks by public and private company a further focus in bringing the students to current and future social developments. This collaboration semester work continuously to concrete design and art projects resulting in public space.

In addition HBKsaar maintains international contacts with art and design institution in Europe, Asia and North America. The international focus, the practical courses as well as an integrative treatment of artistic and creative and scientific research make the courses offered to students from many nations HBKsaar interesting.
