With more than 7,000 students, the FHH is the second largest university of the Lower Saxony state capital. emerged in 1971 from several educational institutions, it provides with its five faculties at several locations in Hanover a very wide ranging educational spectrum. In order to concentrate research activities in 2000, the faculty research "automation environment and bio-processes and systems" (AUBIOS) was established, which is now maintained as a center of excellence AUBIOS. Together with technology transfer, the university ensures that the scientific know-how and experience of the FHH for plants and other facilities are accessible to practice. The Working Group Innovative Projects in the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture (AGIP) operates projects in the field of applied research at the universities of Lower Saxony.
