University description (as per official university website)
After an intensive period of planning, Yorkville University was established in 2003 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The University is private and non-denominational, specializing in practice oriented graduate and undergraduate level academic programs. In March, 2004, the Department of Education of the Province of New Brunswick granted Designation status, approving Yorkville University as a degree granting institution authorised to offer the Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology.
Through its Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, the University offers the didactic portion of the Masters program in Counselling Psychology (MACP) in an online and blended format. This faculty also offers three post-graduate diplomas in Addictions Studies, Marriage and Family Therapy and Health Psychology. These diplomas are offered exclusively online and are designed for students who have completed masters level study in counselling or a related field.
Yorkville University’s academic year is organized on a trimester basis, with three terms of fifteen weeks each plus intersession breaks in each calendar year. Terms begin September, January, and May. Online three-credit courses are generally completed in five-week sessions. Full-time students enroll for between nine and eighteen academic credit hours per term, depending upon the program. Online courses are taken sequentially.
Yorkville University’s degree programs are designed for working adults with high aspirations and busy professional schedules, in that high academic expectations are mixed with an emphasis on student service and convenience, augmented by the latest advances in educational technology.
In many of its programs, Yorkville University offers the opportunity to advance your education online from the convenience of your home or office. You attend classes, study, and complete assignments at times which are convenient for you. Our academic and administrative staff is never more than a phone call or mouse-click away. Traditional Academic Values, New Technology
Your course of study will reflect traditional values of academic excellence in teaching and thinking, kept relevant and current using the latest educational technology. Your courses will be taught in a similar time frame to what you might find at a traditional university, but by eliminating long summer and midterm breaks you will graduate and move forward in your career more quickly.
Your professors are highly qualified in their fields. All faculty hold doctoral degrees and professional licensure or registration, and they bring their real-world practical experience to your classes. Many of these professors also teach at other leading universities in both Canada and the United States. The individual courses and, indeed, your entire curriculum are carefully designed to optimize your learning experience.
