The University of the Pacific was established on July 10, 1851 as California Wesleyan College. It was renamed the College of the Pacific in 1911. It gained university status in 1961 and was renamed to its present name at that time. It is the oldest chartered university in the state of California. The university is beautifully nestled in an area of more than 170 acres in Stockton, California. It also operates a radio station, called K-PAC Student Radio, 89.7 FM. The University of the Pacific is made up of the following academic units:

* College of the Pacific
* Conservatory of Music
* Eberhardt School of Business
* Gladys L. Benerd School of Education
* McGeorge School of Law
* School of Engineering and Computer Science
* School of International Studies
* Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
Greek life plays a significant role at The University of the Pacific, which includes Theta Chi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Sigma Chi, Xi Chi Sigma, Gamma Alpha Omega, Delta Sigma Theta, Alpha Chi Sigma, Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Alpha Phi Omega, Delta Phi Epsilon, Rho Chi, Tau Beta Pi and Phi Beta Kappa.
In 2008-09, more than 80% of undergraduate students enrolled at Pacific received financial assistance.
There is no specific income level that automatically disqualifies a family for financial aid. In fact, income is only one of many factors considered when determining eligibility for aid. Family size, number of children in college, family assets, private elementary and secondary tuition, and other circumstances are also taken into account.
