Each UTI school is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.


Financial Aid

An Overview

Student Eligibility
To receive student financial aid, there are various eligibility requirements that must be met. These requirements are as follows:

* have financial need
* have a High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) Certificate, or equivalent
* be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student
* be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
* have a valid Social Security Number
* maintain satisfactory academic progress
* sign the statements of educational purpose and non-default on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
* register with the Selective Service, if required
* not be in default on a federal student loan or owe an overpayment on a federal student grant

Financial Need
Most student financial aid funds are awarded based on a financial need. The exceptions to this include unsubsidized Stafford and all PLUS Loans.

Dependency Status
Students are classified as dependent or independent because federal student aid programs are based on the idea that students, and their families, if applicable, have the primary responsibility for paying for their post-secondary education.

For the 2009-2010 aid year, a student is considered an independent student if at least one of the following applies:

* was born before January 1, 1986
* is married as of the date completing the FAFSA
* is enrolled in a graduate or professional educational program (beyond a bachelor's degree)
* has legal dependents other than a spouse
* both parents are deceased, were in foster care of was an orphan or ward of the court (since turning 13)
* is a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces ("veteran" includes students who are a National Guard or Reserve enlistee who was called to active duty for purposes other than training, or were a cadet or midshipman at one of the service academies, and were released under a condition other than dishonorable.)
* is currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purposes other than training
* is or was an emancipated minor or in legal guardianship as deterimined by a court in the students state of legal residence
* was at any time after July 1, 2008 deteremined by their high school or school district liasion, or the director of an emergency shelter or transitional housting program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to be an unaccompanied youth who was homeless
* was at any time after July 1, 2008 determined by the director of a runaway or homelss youth basic center or transitional living program to be an unaccompanied youth who was homeless or was self-supporting and at risk of being homeless
