Taft College, or TC, was established on August 30, 1922, as Taft Junior College. At that time, the college was part of the Taft Union High School District. Initially, classes were conducted on the Taft High School campus. The college adopted its present name on July 1, 1954, and moved to its current campus in September 1956. It is now administered by the California Community Colleges system. The academic divisions of TC are as follows:
* Department of Career & Technical Education

* Liberal Arts Division
* Math/ Science Division
* Social Science Division
TC offers several student activities and has many student-run clubs and organizations. Some of the student organizations are the International Club, Phi Theta Kappa, and Best Buddies Club.
Some of the scholarships offered by TC are the Clarence Berry Memorial Scholarship, Chevron Scholarship, TC Scholarship, and Oxy Scholarship.
