About Soka Overview
groupSoka University is a private, non-profit, four-year liberal arts college and graduate school located on 103-acres in south Orange County, California in the City of Aliso Viejo. SUA is just one mile from the beach (if you are a bird – seven miles driving) and located in the heart of Southern California’s abundance of cultural, educational, sporting and adventure opportunities.
SUA offers a 9:1 student/faculty ratio (average class size 13) and study abroad is included in tuition so that every undergraduate spends a semester living and learning another culture. Proudly founded upon the Buddhist principles of peace, human rights and the sanctity of life, SUA offers a non-sectarian curriculum that is open to top students of all nationalities and beliefs. About half of our students come from the US and half from more than 40 other countries.
SUA offers generous financial aid to both US and International students, with free tuition available to eligible admitted students whose earned family income is $60,000 or less (room and board fees still apply.) The mission of Soka University is to “foster a steady stream of global citizens committed to living a contributive life.”
Meeting the costs of an education represents a significant investment for most families. Soka University of America is committed to providing comprehensive merit and need-based financial aid programs that make it possible for admitted students who meet specific requirements and deadlines to attend Soka University.
In 2009 over 90% of Soka's students, both domestic and international, received financial aid totaling over eight million dollars. This included nearly five million dollars in need-based grants and three million dollars in merit-based scholarships. Soka is committed to investing its resources to insure the success of our students.
In an effort to promote greater diversity and access to higher education for both domestic and international students, Soka University has also implemented the Soka Opportunity Scholarships. All admitted students to the BA in Liberal Arts program whose annual earned family income is $60,000 or less, and who have neither graduated from college nor completed more than 3/4 of the required coursework towards their first undergraduate degree (e.g., BA/BS) at the time of application to SUA, will receive free tuition (room and board fees will still apply).
