Occidental College
Los Angeles, United States- California

University description (as per official university website)

Occidental offers you a unique combination of a rigorous academic program, small size, a diverse student body, and all the resources of Los Angeles. Our interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to the liberal arts challenges you to develop a wide range of skills; our close-knit community truly makes us what one college guide calls “an urban oasis.”

Occidental College, also referred to as Oxy, is located in Los Angeles, California, United States. It was established in the year 1887 by a group of Presbyterian laymen and clergymen. This college is among the oldest West Coast liberal arts colleges. Oxy offers degree and certificate programs in a range of subjects including film and media studies, mathematics, religious studies, biochemistry, and linguistics.

This college hosts more than 100 student clubs and organizations. Some of them are the Buddhist Meditation Group, Cult Fusion Musical Gathering, Kappa Alpha Theta, Rock Climbing Club, Sigma Lambda Gamma, South Asian Student Association, and Progressive Christians Uniting. The men's teams of Oxy participate in sports such as basketball, baseball, football, cross country, soccer, golf, tennis, swimming and diving, water polo, and track and field. The women's teams compete in basketball, softball, lacrosse, water polo, volleyball, track and field, cross country, swimming and diving, soccer, tenni, and golf.

Financial Aid

Aid Programs

A financial aid award or “package” usually consists of a combination of awards: scholarships, grants, work and loans. These funds are made available through the College, the federal government, the state of California and other sources.

Grants and scholarships are forms of aid that help students pay for their educational costs. Unlike student loans, grants and scholarships do not have to be repaid.

Work programs contribute more than financial assistance to your college education. They offer a dual incentive: money for college and work experience. In an increasingly competitive job market, employers want applicants with both work and academic experience. Campus employment will help prepare you to enter the working world. In addition, the Occidental community benefits from the unique talents and experiences you bring. You will become a member of a team representing Occidental and making significant contributions to the College's operations.

Loans for parents and students are an invaluable resource for financing a college education. Be sure you understand all of your rights and responsibilities before you accept a loan.
