The Academy of Art University is a proprietary, private university owned by the Stephens Institute. It was established in San Francisco in 1929 as the Academy of Art Advertising by Richard S. Stephens. The university enrolls more than 13,000 students. It is one of the largest art and design schools in the United States. The Academy of Art University includes several schools such as:

* Industrial Design School
* Interior Design School
* Photography School

The University offers both on-campus and distance education (online) degrees and certificate programs. The programs include Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Art, and Bachelor of Fine Arts for undergraduate degrees; Master of Art, Master of Fine Arts, and Master of Architecture for graduate degrees; and certificate programs for personal enrichment.

The student body of the Academy of Art University has an impressive number of international students. There are special clubs on campus to assist foreign students with admission into the university.


Since the Academy of Art University's scholarship program was founded over forty years ago, we have helped over 45,000 aspiring artists and designers pursue their educational goals in art and design. The Academy of Art University offers a number of innovative and inexpensive ways for first-time Academy students, high school students, and teachers to improve their skills and experience all that the Academy has to offer. Pre-College Programs

The Pre-College Summer Art Experience and Pre-College Saturday Art Experience are programs that provide intensive art experiences for high school students. All high school students are invited to apply to take advantage of this full-tuition scholarship (based on availability).
Portfolio Grant

Every year, the Academy of Art University awards over 300 Portfolio Grants to assist Undergraduate students to pursue their education in the industry of Art.
Teacher Grant

The Teacher Grant provides high school and community college art teachers an opportunity to practice and improve their skills. These full-tuition scholarships apply toward any regular undergraduate course and are subject to limited availability.
