Our Mission

The Mission of the Student Advising and Mentoring Center (SAM Center) at Sam Houston State University is to provide intrusive academic advising and mentoring to all students assisting them in discovering methods to set personal goals, establishing strategies to achieve their objectives, enhancing skills to sharpen academic accomplishments, and providing incentives for realizing educational success.

The SAM Center is a resource dedicated to helping students adjust to academic life at Sam Houston State University. Services available include career testing, aid with time management, and study skills.

The SAM Center is a resource dedicated to helping students adjust to academic life at Sam Houston State University. Services available include career testing, aid with time management, and study skills.

The center has grown rapidly since we've been open and with new programs being offered, our students are taking more advantage of our resources. With a great faculty and staff, all students are encouraged to look into any of the programs we have avaliable.

The SAM Center is located in The College of Humanities and Social Sciences Building (CHSS) on the first floor, room 170 & 190. For a map of the campus please click HERE.

Scholarship Opportunities

Welcome to Scholarships and Financial Aid. Sam Houston State University provides current and prospective students with resources to assist in the search for scholarship funds from university and external sources. The Scholarship Team coordinates and oversees the University's comprehensive scholarship program and acts as a liaison between the departments on campus, the University Scholarship Committee, and the Office of Student Financial Aid and Enrollment Management. The Scholarship Team coordinates and administers more than 500 SHSU scholarship programs a year, ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars.
