Oral Roberts University, also called ORU, is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The university was established in 1963 by the evangelist Oral Roberts, after whom ORU has been named. The first students of the university were enrolled in the year 1965. ORU's campus is spread over more than 260 acres. It is a Christian liberal arts university and enrolls more than 3,000 students annually which includes international students from over 60 countries. The students here are offered major degrees and certificate programs in study areas which include arts and cultural studies, business and education.
The New ORU
Founded to educate the whole person-mind, body and spirit-ORU promises a world-class academic experience in the context of a vibrant Christ-centered community.
Today, ORU envisions a bright future, energized by the financial support of the Green family-who has generously provided more than $60 million to the University-and by the appointment of a new president, Dr. Mark Rutland.
The New ORU is pursuing excellence in every category-strengthening academic programs, upgrading technological capabilities and improving facilities campus-wide.
A comprehensive university dedicated to strong student outcomes, ORU offers 65 undergraduate majors, many with national accreditation, as well as 14 master's-level programs and two doctoral degrees. Faculty members educated at the nation's top graduate schools serve as academic, professional and spiritual mentors to students who come to ORU from every corner of the globe.
ORU continues to redefine what it means to be a leading Christian university. We invite you to feel the energy of the New ORU and become a part of this university on the go.
The mission of Oral Roberts University - in its commitment to the Christian faith - is to educate the whole person in spirit, mind, and body, thereby preparing its graduates to be professionally competent servant-leaders who are spiritually alive, intellectually alert, physically disciplined, and socially adept.
The university seeks to synthesize the best practices of liberal arts, professional, and graduate education with a charismatic emphasis to enable students to go into every person's world with God's message of salvation and healing for the totality of human need.
Putting the Pieces Together to Pay for College
Working out the finances to attend college at ORU is a lot like assembling a jigsaw puzzle. At first it can look overwhelming - even impossible. But, when you, your parents and your financial aid counselor sit down and start fitting the pieces together, a plan begins to emerge that ultimately gets you on campus.
It may take scholarships based on your good grades, school or church activities or leadership. It may involve loans, either private or federally subsidized. It could require work-study where you hold a job part-time while you're in school. And it may include grants from generous friends with a heart for Christian education and the mission of ORU. But, if the Lord wants you at ORU, sooner or later that's where you should be.
