University description (as per official university website)
Rockland Community College is the only public higher education institution in Rockland County. It has served as an educational resource for Rockland since 1959, offering small classes, personal attention and caring faculty. In addition to the main campus in Suffern, the College operates Extension Centers in Spring Valley and Haverstraw. Close to 10,000 people are enrolled in credit and non-credit courses, and over 200,000 visit the campus each year for cultural, recreational and commercial events.
The New York State Education Department has authorized Rockland Community College to offer 41 degree and certificate programs in the humanities, social sciences, arts, technologies, business, health professions, mathematics and sciences. Students are advised that enrollment in other than registered or otherwise approved programs may jeopardize eligibility for certain student aid awards. All associate degree programs require a minimum of 60 credit hours.
More than 250 international students are enrolled at Rockland Community College every year. The International Student Services Office encourages them to interact with the RCC community through student clubs and special events.
Students can obtain information and applications for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Rockland Community College does not require this exam, but it is required of international students by some transfer colleges and universities.
Each year more than 2,000 SUNY Rockland Community College students receive more than $6 million in financial assistance to help them meet the cost of higher education. Since many students are eligible for some kind of financial aid, all students are encouraged to apply. Funds are generally available to those who can demonstrate financial need.
The Financial Aid Office assists students and families to complete applications for federal, state and local financial aid programs and subsequently awards aid to all eligible applicants. Free personal financial aid counseling and technical assistance is available on a walk-in basis. |
