Allen College is a private, co-educational regionally accredited post-secondary institution categorized by the Carnegie Foundation as a Special Focus Institution. Allen College sponsors four academic degree programs. The Associate of Science in Radiography (ASR) is a two-year degree program. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is offered for pre- and post-licensure students seeking to start or advance a career in professional nursing. The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program offers six tracks: family, acute care, adult/gerontological, and adult psychiatric–mental health nurse practitioner tracks; a nurse educator track; and a nurse leader track for nurses wishing to advance their careers. Students can complete a post-master’s certificate in each of these tracks. In fall 2009, Allen College will admit students to a new Bachelor of Health Science (BHS) degree program that will prepare clinical laboratory scientists and nuclear medical technologists. Students can complete a post-master’s certificate in each of these tracks. An RN to MSN track and a certificate in pain management are also offered.
Allen College challenges students with dynamic learning opportunities. Its academic degree programs thrive in an environment that will facilitate student achievement of academic excellence and clinical competence with emphasis on the art of human caring. Exceptional opportunities for classroom and clinical learning are available to the student on the Allen College Campus, at the University of Northern Iowa, Wartburg College, and at the numerous health care facilities in the region. To provide liberal arts and general education courses, Allen College has agreements with the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and Wartburg College in Waverly. The bridge between these institutions will maximize student enjoyment and learning opportunities by combining the strengths of our clinical learning component with the traditional college environment and activities.
