University description (as per official university website)
WIU established its first campus in 1993 in Tallinn, Estonia under the name of Concordia International University Estonia as a private university offering a bachelor degree in International Business. The school was an instant success with over 125 students enrolled the first year. Following the first graduating class, the Estonian Ministry of Education accredited CIUE. In 1996, WIU turned CIUE over to a few Estonians and the university has since merged with another private Estonian university to provide even greater opportunities for the students.
In 1997, a group from Ukraine approached WIU to begin a university in Kiev similar to the one in Estonia to offer a bachelor degree in business. WIU was registered by the Kiev Regional Municipal Council under the official name of UKRAINE-AMERICAN HUMANITARIAN (LIBERAL ARTS) INSTITUTE - "Wisconsin International University Ukraine." WIUU shares classrooms, offices, a library, and student activity areas with the M.P. Dragomanov Pedagogical University. WIUU is accredited by the Ukraine Ministry of Education and issues its diplomas through the authority granted to it by the Ministry of Education. Its graduates are quickly employed by foreign Embassies and foreign owned businesses because of their Western business knowledge and English skills. Ownership and full responsibility are under the leadership of Rector Dr. Alexander Romanovskii and Vice Rector Dr. Julia Romanovska.
WIU offers degree programs in Brazil. All courses are evaluated and validated by professors in Brazil. After the completion of all coursework, a review panel of professors in Brazil interviews the student similar to the defense of a doctorate dissertation in the USA to determine the knowledge gained by the student in his/her studies. The USA Brazil Consulate then validates the diploma. Finally, a Brazil Federal University validates the degree.
Wisconsin International University College Ghana is a great success story for WIU. The WIU USA office provided the funding and expertise to get WIUC started. The school has excellent facilities, modern computer labs, an extensive library, and student activity areas. Today, over 700 students attend the university. The diploma is issued by WIUC through the authority granted by the National Accreditation Board of the Ghana Ministry of Education and in cooperation with the University of Cape Coast.
Beeches Graduate School of Business in Nigeria, recognized under law by the Federal Republic of Nigeria to engage in education, has a cooperative relationship with WIU. Students take all their courses and complete all their requirements with Beeches Graduate School.
The WIU Asian office is now located in Malaysia. Through an affiliation with Global Merge Network (GMN), all courses are taken through GMN. GMN serves students in many Asian countries.
Wisconsin International University has an agreement with Schiller International University which has campuses in Florida (USA), England, France, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. Students from any of the WIU programs may transfer their credits to any of Schiller European campuses.
WIU does not have a campus in the USA, nor does it offer classroom instruction or distant learning in or from the USA. It has an office in the USA for its business work and to communicate with students and WIU affiliates in other countries.
The student should understand that:
1. WIU is a private university, approved as a non-profit university by the United States Department of Treasury.
2. WIU does not have a campus in the USA. It only has the international office. As an international university, WIU is subject to the government laws in each country where it offers degree programs.
3. Each individual educational institution determines the recognition of the WIU degree according to its own university policy.
4. It is the responsibility of the individual employer to determine if it will accept the WIU degree. |
