Southside Virginia Community College
Christanna, United States- Virginia

University description (as per official university website)

Sometimes small is better. That's how it is at Southside Virginia Community College. You'll never be lost in the crowd or treated like a number on a computer printout. What you will find are faculty, staff and administrators who do their best for students of all ages to provide a quality educational program for transfer to four-year colleges and universities and an occupational-technical program to educate, train and retrain workers for Southside business and industry.

Facts about SVCC

* About 8,000 students, 63% of them females, are enrolled at SVCC. The average student age is 27. The majority of students work and attend college part time. SVCC operates on the semester system with classes offered during the day and evening. A semester is about 15 weeks long.
* Established in 1970, SVCC is one of the 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System. The Christanna Campus near Alberta and the John H. Daniel Campus near Keysville serve ten counties and one city - the largest community college service region in the state. In 1985, SVCC opened its Campus Without Walls in Emporia-Greensville, now named the Robert C. Wrenn Center.
* The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate degrees. SVCC is approved by the State Department of Education for payment of veteran's benefits. The college is supported by local, state and federal funds.
* SVCC is dedicated to the belief that all citizens should be given an opportunity to acquire an educational foundation which develops and extends their skills and knowledge. The college's goal is to provide diverse instructional programs ranging from developmental studies to associate degree curricula in academic, technical, and lifelong education. Through various activities, students will also have the opportunity to develop their roles and responsibilities as participants in a changing society.
