For the last 40 years, John Tyler Community College has been serving the community as a public two-year institution of higher education. The College offers a variety of programs and services, with a focus on primarily serving the residents of the cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell and Petersburg, as well as the counties of Amelia, Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Surry and Sussex.

John Tyler Community College is a two-year, public institution of higher education and the fifth largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia.

John Tyler Community College adds value to the greater Richmond community by offering:

* Freshman- and sophomore-level classes that easily transfer to top-notch colleges and universities
* More than 52 in-demand career and technical programs
* Personal enrichment and professional development classes for lifetime learning
* Professors committed to excellence in teaching

Academics:

John Tyler Community College offers academic programs that can lead to transfer to a four-year college or university, employment in today’s top fields, personal fulfillment, career advancement and more. The College offers two-year associate degrees, as well as shorter certificate and career studies certificate programs. Classes are held at the campuses in Midlothian and Chester, as well as locations throughout the service area.

The Division of Arts and Sciences offers programs that focus on the liberal arts and possible transfer. The Division of Professional and Technical Studies has a variety of programs centered on preparing students for immediate employment in professional and technical fields such as business management, child care, building construction, funeral services and nursing.

The College is also proud to be on the cutting edge of distance education, offering students the opportunity to take online and hybrid classes. Our Division of Distance Education and Extended Learning offers dual enrollment courses for high school students looking to jump start their college careers, as well as contract courses with various companies in the Richmond and Petersburg metropolitan areas.
