University description (as per official university website)

Carlow University, the first Catholic, women-centered, liberal arts university in Pennsylvania, prepares students, primarily women, for competent leadership and compassionate service in personal and professional life.

With an enrollment currently under 2,200, and a student-faculty ratio of 12-1, students enjoy small classes and individual instruction. The student population is culturally diverse consisting of more than 20 percent African American students, traditional and nontraditional, and more than half are first generation. Upon graduation, 79 percent of the graduating seniors gain employment in their academic fields.

Carlow University offers students the best of a small Catholic, women-centered liberal arts university, within walking distance of world-class institutions of higher education including the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, situated in a culturally diverse, urban neighborhood.

Carlow University engages students in critical and creative thinking through collaborative learning, formal instruction, and informal conversation; develops students for professional and personal leadership; and prepares students for a lifetime of service.

The Catholic Intellectual Tradition is realized by the pursuit of knowledge through the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Professional Studies that offer more than 50 academic programs in:
