Award Type: Scholarship

Purpose: To provide financial aid to Virginia young people pursuing a baccalaureate degree at a Virginia-based college or university.

Focus: General studies.

Qualifications: Applicant must be a high school senior; not a Virginia BPW Foundation Trustee, or related to a Trustee; a citizen of the United States; a resident of Virginia; have a 3.0 or better GPA; have pass all SOL tests; scored 1000 or above on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or a comparable score on another college board exam; and pursuing a baccalaureate degree at a Virginia-based college/university.

Criteria: Selection is based on financial need; scholastic record; educational goals; and commitment to Virginia BPW Foundation's Vision which is "Empowered Workingwomen" and its Mission which is "Dedicated to providing information, resources and educational opportunities to current and future workingwomen in Virginia".

Funds: $500-$1,000.

Duration: One year.

Number of Awards: At least one.

To Apply: Applicants must submit a completed application form along with a proof of Virginia residency (copy of driver's license, voter registration card, a Virginia Tax Return or DMV identification card), and a proof of US citizenship (copy of birth certificate, US passport, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, voter's registration card). In addition, applicant's guidance counselor must provide the applicant's complete secondary record of grades; GPA; standardized test scores; statement that all SOL tests were passed; type of diploma the applicant will receive; and a letter of recommendation (from guidance counselor or principal).

Deadline: April 1.
