The graduate School in Social Sciences of the University of Trento announces the issue of the call for applications for the admission to the doctoral programmes in Economics and Management , or Local Development and Global Dynamics , or Sociology and Social Research.

For this three-year doctoral programme starting in October 2011, 22 doctoral positions, all covered with scholarship are awarded.

Admission and enrolment

Admission to the School is on a selective basis. A call for applications is issued yearly.

Eligible applicants: candidates, regardless of gender, age and nationality, who hold an Italian "laurea specialistica (magistrale)", instituted in conformity with Ministerial Decree no. 509 of 3 November 1999 and subsequent amendments, a university degree of the previous regulations, or an equivalent degree obtained abroad.

Applicants holding a foreign degree not officially recognized as equivalent to the Italian "laurea", must explicitly request recognition of equivalence in their application. The successful applicant will be asked to present a statement of validity by the enrollment.

A prerequisite to be admitted to the selection is the knowledge of the English language at least C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR). Failing a certificate of knowledge of English language, during the oral examination the knowledge of English will be tested.

Application: applications must be sent within the deadline specified in the call; they must be duly dated and undersigned and complete of all the attachments required.

Admittance selection: the selection consists of two steps (and a third step for Sociology and Social Research):

- assessment of qualifications
- interview
- multiple choice test (for the PhD programme in Sociology and Social Research)

Project specific grants

Funded by the Institute for “Evaluative Research on Public Policy” (IRVAPP ) reserved to the study of the following topic: “Public, Educational Policies Evaluation, According to a Quasi-Experimental, Counter-factual Research Design”.

Funded by the Institute for “Evaluative Research on Public Policy” (IRVAPP ) reserved to the study of the following topic: “Impact Evaluation on Industrial Policies with a Counterfactual Approach".

Doctoral scholarships

The number of the conferred scholarships cannot be less than half of the places announced in the call.
Scholarships are awarded after a comparative evaluation and on the basis of the list of applicants given in order of merit; all other conditions being equal, the economic situation of the candidate will be considered, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Italian Republic, 9th April 2001.
After the Italian Ministry's decree of the 18th of June 2008, the annual gross amount of the doctoral grant has increased to 13.638,47 Euro including the social security contributions that have to be paid by the Doctoral students as established by the current Italian Law.
Scholarships cannot be combined with other grants, except those awarded by national or foreign scientific institutes for periods spent abroad which are considered useful for the student's research activities.
If a Doctoral student has already been awarded a grant in the past (even for one year only) for a Doctoral course in Italy, he/she cannot receive a Doctoral scholarship again.

Scholarship payment
Scholarships are normally paid in instalments every two months. The scholarship can be confirmed for the following year if all prerequisites are maintained.
