Research projects should be in line with the IES research strategy that focuses on the EU in an international context. The successful candidates will have an MA degree with good study results. * completed application form (form can be downloaded at )
* a full CV, including a list of publications where appropriate
* a project outline (eight pages maximum) addressing, at minimum: research question/hypothesis; how the project relates to the existing academic discussion; methods and data to be used; time planning

* transcript of academic grades from the last year of study
* one recent sample of academic writing.

The IES requires that at least one (co)promoter of the project be from the VUB. The IES may assist successful candidates in finding a suitable (co-)promoter at the VUB. Co-promotership from other Belgian or foreign universities is encouraged. Successful candidates are expected to base themselves in Brussels, to work at the IES. Office space and equipment will be provided along with a budget for
travelling and other research-related expenses.

The deadline for applications is: 14 June 2011 (for the post to be taken up as of 1 October or as early as possible thereafter).
Short-listed candidates will be informed in mid-July and interviews with top-listed candidates are expected to take place early September.

The successful candidates will receive a research grant for one year (renewable on an annual basis up to four years in total). Extension of the contract is subject to the agreement of the doctoral committee.
Remuneration is at the level of a full time research assistant at a Flemish university (i.e. approx. 1,700 net per month) and includes contributions for social security/insurance. Secondary employment is not allowed.
