Announcement follows
Civil Society and Non-Governmental Organizations occupy a significant place in the agenda of countries, including mainly the USA and the EU members. They have missions of forming a public interest in almost every field of life, such as addressing to fallacies, establishing influence on the decision-makers, bringing problems to the fore, and finally solving social and institutional problems. In this context, NGOs are the third dynamic of development and civilization besides government and private sector.
As poverty recently having social, political and cultural dimensions in addition to its already economic side worldwide, it has increasingly been among the top issues in the global agenda. Overcoming such an issue or making an effort on this issue is not possible by restricted resources of governments, private sector or the NGOs single-handedly. In this regard, the IIIrd International NGOs Conference with the main theme “NGOs-Private Sector-Government Interaction” has provided one of the most important contributions in establishing consciousness and responsibility through common mind-common initiation understanding. The results of this conference have proved that NGOs contribute significantly to the fight against poverty and keeping it on the global agenda.
While preparing for the IVth International NGOs Conference, Biga Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, which has adopted a special mission on NGOs, would like to show its awareness on global matters. Contributions of academics at national and international levels, civil society and NGOs representatives, and private sector and government managers, are expected to this year’s conference with the main theme “Global Poverty” and various other sub-headings. In this regard, we hope you could honor us with your presence in our conference on October 19-21, 2007, in Çanakkale.
Purpose and Scope
Political and social structures of the societies have been affected by recent changes. These are the changes in production relations, professions, institutions, roles, attitudes and needs of the societies that move from traditional way of life towards modern life standards. As a result, former social, psychological and economic ties are breaking. Social issues make individuals, who aim to participate actively to the process of finding long term effective solutions, unify their strengths under “non-governmental organizations”. In addition to governments and private sector, today “ non-governmental organizations” as a third dynamic also perform operations and make their significance felt for problems that occur in every field of social life such as education, health, democracy, human rights, economic development, unemployment, tourism, poverty, and infrastructure.
