Circus Next 2012-2013

Scholarship / Financial aid: authorship grant, creation residencies, and networking

Date: 2012-2013

Deadline: August 5th 2012

Open to: emerging European artists

Announcement follows

An annual programme of artistic and financial support with the aim of discovering, accompanying and supporting the new generation of circus authors

Circus Next is also a platform of European partners organizing this Eu-wide operation

CircusNext is an annual programme of artistic and financial support whose goal is to identify emerging talents creating circus arts and to foster the initial development of their work. Circus Next favours research and exchanges between artists and promotes their mobility within Europe.

Support is awarded through an authorship grant, creation residencies, and networking with international performing arts professionals.

Created in 2001, it has supported the emergence of contemporary circus artists, providing dozens of young companies with optimal conditions to create their first shows.

Applications are open from May 7th. Please fill the form before August 5th 2012 if you want to apply for support from Circus Next.

Over the years, Jeunes Talents Cirque Europe has become a key structure in the development of contemporary circus, and for the acknowledgement of circus as an art form in itself. The artists supported have been developing diverse and innovative aesthetics, and have distinguished themselves for experimenting new forms.

In 2012, Jeunes Talents Cirque Europe goes further through the European path and becomes CircusNext: a cooperation project designed on the European scale to offer optimal conditions to contemporary circus authors. The project also aims at qualifying creation processes, renewing production methods and encouraging national cultural policies to evolve.

Selection and Support
_Selection on application files: a jury gathering artists and performing arts professionals is in charge of selecting twelve projects considered as most promising.

_Selection week: the twelve artists preselected present a 20-minute model of their project to the jury. At the end of the week, five projects are selected and receive a grant to support their writing (around 10,000€).

_Residencies: laureates benefit from at least one month of residency in one or several partner venues, which allows them to create and make their project evolve.

_Public presentations: laureates present their models to an audience of performing arts professionals, artists, etc. A public presentation gathering about 250 European professionals is held each year in Paris, at the Théâtre de la Cité Internationale, and concludes the support scheme.
